Name: Snow Day
Brewed By: New Belgium Brewing Company
Style: Winter Ale
ABV: 6.2%
This is the only beer in my 12 days of Beermas that is not available in Maine; my friend at Big Kahuna Brew Blog sent this my way from Colorado.
Snow Day pours black, this is a very dark beer, has an off white head.
The smell is very hop forward, picking up citrus and pine. The malt comes through a little; I’m mostly picking up roasted grains.
The hops are the first thing I taste, slightly grassy, some pine notes and a nice grapefruit flavor. Malt is roasty, some slight chocolate and a light smokiness, very subtle though. This is a really well balanced beer to me I don’t find any of the flavors to be over the top. Medium body, steady carbonation and a clean finish.
Overall an excellent beer, I’m really happy to have had a chance to try this beer and now I’m really disappointed that New Belgium isn’t available in Maine. If you can get your hands on a bottle I would recommend picking it up.
Cheers!
