Coaster Critique: Geaghan Brothers Brewing, Penobscot Icebreaker

Name: Penobscot Icebreaker

Brewed by: Geaghan Brothers Brewing

ABV: 6.9%

Purchased: Geaghan’s Pub and Brewery

A couple of weeks ago my wife was heading over to Geaghan’s for a work function, I asked her to bring along one of my empty “Bangor bottles” for a refill. I heard the Icebreaker was drinking really nice over there and after receiving multiple requests for a review it was perfect timing.

Icebreaker pours a dark amber color with red highlights and a short off white head.

This was a very pleasant smelling beer with toffee sweetness and  hints of spice; cinnamon and nutmeg are what I pick up.

Icebreaker was a really nice drinking beer, not as sweet as I expected from the smell but a toasted malt flavor with a really subtle spice that doesn’t linger. The alcohol adds a little heat without being boozy. This beer has a light to medium body and finished clean and dry.

Overall a really nice winter seasonal, it’s not too heavy or overly spiced but carrying enough ABV to warm you up on a cool winter evening. Head down to Geaghan’s for a pint or a growler to go before this one’s gone and check out the other Geaghan Brothers offerings I’ve reviewed.

Cheers!
