Raspberry Half and Half Shandy

I spent the day at the lake; it was up around 90° outside with a light breeze, a perfect day to be away from town, also a perfect day for a refreshing summer Shandy. There are commercial shandy’s available but I’d prefer to make mine to taste.

It’s pretty easy to go overboard and lose the beer flavor, which for some non-beer drinkers might be the appeal; I like the beer to be a strong component in the drink so I go light with whatever I add in.

I generally find a lighter beer works well; I usually lean towards Pilsner or summer ale as they are crisp and refreshing and allow the flavor of the lemonade or juice to stand out. I made a Raspberry Half and Half Shandy, incorporating the flavors of raspberry iced tea and raspberry lemonade in a summer ale.

Raspberry Half and Half Shandy
1-1.5 oz. Raspberry Lemonade
1-1.5 oz. Raspberry Iced Tea
1 12oz can Shipyard Summer Ale

Looking like this week is going to be a hot one, if this Shandy isn’t for you maybe try a Mainer Summer Saturday Punch, a Snakebite or head to Orono and try a Demon Stout Float at the Family Dog.

Cheers!
