Brewed By: The Shed Brewery (Otter Creek Brewing Co.)
Style: Porter
ABV: 6.75%
Nosedive is black, when held to the light it takes on a deep crimson color; pour produced a short khaki colored head.
The smell immediately reminds me of a freshly opened bag of coffee beans, baked bread, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla, like whipped cream.
The first flavor I pick up is husky roasted grains, baked bread, light roast coffee and earthy hops. Initial sip is dry then becomes sweet about the same time a faint vanilla flavor becomes noticeable then dries out at the finish with a slight bitter bite. This porter is light in body but has a creamy, slightly buttery mouthfeel.
My parents made a trip up to Maine this weekend and this was one of the beers they brought up to me, I was excited to try this one as I’ve been a fan of the Shed Brewery for a long time. Nosedive was thinner than I like for a porter and not what I’d consider “robust” but other than that it was a solid beer. The vanilla was there in the nose and flavor, faint but there, which I liked, some beers aged on vanilla bean have an artificial over the top flavor, not the case here. Unfortunately, Nosedive is not available outside of Vermont but if you are travelling or know someone who is, it’s worth picking up a bottle.
Cheers!
