Coaster Critique: Shiner Ruby Redbird

Name: Shiner Ruby RedbirdIMG_5954

Brewed By: Spoetzl Brewery

Style: Summer Seasonal brewed with Ruby Red Grapefruit and Ginger

ABV: 4.01%

Pours a bright golden color with a short fizzy head that dissolved quickly, the beer is crystal clear in the glass.

Ruby Redbird smells of fresh grated ginger and grapefruit juice with just a hint of malt sweetness.

The grapefruit juice is the first flavor I pick up, not a strong tart flavor as if drinking grapefruit juice just a light, spritzy citrus burst that is quickly followed by ginger and then leaves you with a pale ale aftertaste.

I was actually not sure I’d like this beer when I read the description but I was pleasantly surprised, it’s a fitting summer seasonal, I couldn’t’ imagine drinking this on anything but a hot summer day or in this case a humid summer evening. The beer isn’t overly complex, hence the short review but it is a thirst quencher for sure. Here’s the part where I tell you it’s not available in Maine, but wait, I received this beer as sample from the brewery and have been informed that Shiner beers should start distributing in Maine this month, I haven’t seen them in the wild yet but I’ll be keeping an eye out.

Cheers
