Coaster Critique: Geaghan Brothers Brewing – Doug E. Graves Fall Ale

Name: Doug E. Graves Fall AleIMG_3875

Brewed By: Geaghan Brothers Brewing

Style: Maple Brown Rye Ale

ABV: 4.9%

Pours a deep shoe leather brown color with a short off white head, although dark the beer is crystal clear and has a red-brown glow when held to the light.

Smells of dark chocolate, roasty grains and a hint of spicy rye.

Complex flavor, initial sip is a smooth chocolate brown ale, pine and citrus hops, a gentle rye spice and a bone dry finish. Once the hops and rye have faded away the maple flavor lingers on your lips.

Overall a delicious fall beer, plenty of seasonal flavors, none of which are overwhelming and as a bonus it’s a fall beer with no pumpkin or pumpkin spice, I like that. This is a beer I could sit at the pub and enjoy two or three of without my palate getting tired and calling for a change, the 4.9% ABV also lends itself to that kind of scenario. I don’t think this beer will be around for long so head to the pub soon if you don’t want to miss out.
Cheers

Doug E. Graves Fall Ale is a collaborative brew between Geaghan Brothers Brewing and WKIT FM 100.3 The Rock of Bangor. WKIT is owned by Stephen and Tabitha King and of course, Doug E. Graves is the station mascot. The relationship between Geaghan Brothers Brewing and WKIT has been devoloping over the past few years stemming from Head Brewer, Andrew Geaghans participation in a segment called Beer and Blarney on The Pulse AM 620 on Friday Mornings at 8am. 10% of sales from the Doug E. Graves Fall Ale release are being donated to EMMC’s Champion the Cure Challenge, I’ve been told that over $1000 were raised during the event.
